LAURA OROZCO (ART MUSEUM DIRECTOR) / ALFONSO SANTIAGO
Artist Chantal Peñalosa (Tecate, Mexico, 1987, lives and works in Tijuana) studied fine arts at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) and the University of São Paulo. Her performative actions archived across various media, such as photography, painting, sculptures, installations, publications, or videos, uses small gestures and actions that intervene in everyday life, playing with notions of labor, waiting and delay. She uses repetitious actions to suspend time and create dialogue with histories, atmospheres and objects in her hometown of Tecate, Mexico. "In this case, Daniel Saldaña Paris was invited to intervene through writing, in the city, territory and the staging of a play of what Peñalosa has called "Tecate". This publication is a fictional and self-reflexive exercise that fosters readings about her artistic practice that are rife with uncertain possibilities." --Bellyband book wrapper.
